Grand Canyon ended its 10-game Pacific West Conference Hawai’i road trip with a doubleheader sweep of BYU-Hawai’i in Laie, HI, Wednesday.
The Antelopes, ranked No. 8 in the nation by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association, went 6-4 on the islands and improved to 24-9 overall and 12-4 in the PacWest with 15-6 and 9-0 wins at BYUH Field.
“Our offense was back and our pitching was good like it has been the entire trip,” said coach Ann Pierson. “It was good to finish the trip on a high note.”
In the opener, GCU scored nine runs in the first two innings, including six in the first, and had 20 hits. Eight players had multi-hit games, led by
Kelsey Barak and
Kailey Regester with three hits apiece.
Kayla Henry had two hits, including a triple and two stolen bases.
Claire Zampini also had two hits and two steals.
Lauren Regester,
Nicole Newbury,
Stephanie Smith and
Haley Walker also had two hit games.
Barak hit for the cycle on the day, getting a pair of singles and a double in the opener and a triple and homer in the game two win.
Kailey Regester had two hits and pitched a two-hit shutout. She struck out two and walked three and improved to 5-3.
Stephanie Pesqueira picked up the win in the opener to up her mark to 11-5. She had a season-high 10 strikeouts and gave up just three hits in five and two-thirds innings.
Henry, Zampini, Smith and Walker all had two-hit games in the 9-0 win. The Antelopes had 13 hits in the win.
“We had a lot of hits and had a lot of good at-bats,” added Pierson.
Wednesday’s wins put the Antelopes one-game behind first-place Dixie State (23-8, 14-4).
The Antelopes are off until a March 29-30 four-game series with California Baptist. Doubleheaders each day will begin at noon.
