GCU lost 4-1 to Cal State Bakersfield and 5-0 to defending national champion and No. 1 Pepperdine.
Against the Roadrunners, GCU won at No. 1 doubles with the team of Kristen Johannsen and Mackenzie Phelps taking a three-set match 17-21, 21-18, 15-12. The No. 5 doubles match went three sets before Courtney Spackman and Jessica Posse lost 19-21, 21-13, 15-6.
In tournament play, held after the duals, Johannsen and Phelps defeated teammates Sara Bowden and Shannon Dugan in the Gold Bracket consolations, 21-12, 21-15, and advanced on to play in consolation rounds Saturday.
In the Silver Bracket, the teams of Caelen Hiller and Kaitlynn Ausmus, Chloe Jenkins and Posse and Spackman and Brittney Spackman all will play in consolation round matches held Saturday.
The team will continue play Sunday with a dual against Nebraska.
