The Grand Canyon University men’s basketball team (23-7) returns to the postseason for the second straight season with a game against Seattle Pacific (25-3) tomorrow. Tipoff at Sam Carver Gymnasium in Bellingham, Wash. is scheduled for 12 p.m. (Arizona time). GCU enters the NCAA Tournament as the No. 6 seed in the Western Regional, while SPU holds the No. 3 seed. GAME NOTES
BELLINGHAM PART TWO: GCU returns to the postseason for the second consecutive season and for the second year in row the stop will be Bellingham, Wash. The Antelopes were a No. 8 seed in the tournament last season and dropped a 79-73 decision to No. 1 seed and eventual national champion, Western Washington. This will be the 20th overall postseason appearance for the ‘Lopes, 10th while a member of the NCAA. The Antelopes have won three national titles, all coming in the NAIA (’75, ’78 and ’88). They hold and all-time postseason record of 50-25, 5-9 in the NCAA.
WILD, WILD WEST: The NCAA West Region can be described in one word - loaded. The region features four teams in the NABC Top 25 – No. 2 SPU, No. 4 Western Washington, No. 5 Cal Poly Pomona and No. 18 Dixie State. GCU was among the “Other receiving votes” with 3 tallies.
VS. SEATTLE PACIFIC: GCU owns an 11-8 lead in the overall series. The Antelopes defeated SPU 67-58 on Nov. 25, 2011 at GCU Arena in the last meeting between the two. They dropped a pair of games to the Falcons during the 2010-11 season, falling 79-68 on Nov. 27 in Phoenix and 71-52 on Dec. 4 in Seattle. Seattle Pacific enters the game as the No. 3 seed in the West Region and was ranked second in the nation in the latest NABC poll. The game can be viewed live, free of charge, by going to

THIRD TIME’S THE CHARM?: Grand Canyon enters the tournament on a two-game losing streak. The Antelopes dropped their regular season finale at Azusa Pacific on March 2, 78-71 in overtime, and then suffered its worst shooting night (30.8%) and scoring output (45) in a 58-45 loss to Chaminade in the PacWest Semifinals on March 7. GCU has not lost three straight since the end of the 2010-11 season.
SEASON FOR THE AGES: The 23 wins in a single season are the most by an Antelope squad since the 1996-97 team also won 23 games. The 42 two-season win total (19 last season) is the most since GCU won 46 over the 1995-96 (23) and 1996-97 (23) campaigns. The Last time they won at least 24 games in a season was 1989-90, when that squad won 25.
MAKE THE SHOT, WIN THE GAME: GCU is 10-0 this season in games in which they shot 45% or better. The Antelopes have shot below 40% in 14 games this season, including their last three in a row.
