In its fourth road match in six days, Grand Canyon dropped a 3-0 Western Athletic Conference decision at Kansas City, Saturday.
GCU (8-14, 2-7) lost in straight sets to the Kangaroos (12-10, 6-4), 25-17, 25-18, 25-22.
The Antelopes played their best set in the third, where there were two lead changes and nine ties. They were even with the 'Roos in kills, 12 each, but made 10 errors to UMKC's seven. There were three ties in the second set and one lead change.
The teams were equal in digs (52) and service aces (3), but Kansas City had more kills (39-30), blocks (9-4.5) and hit for a better percentage (.181-.054).
Junior outside hitter
Hayleigh Friemoth had a team-high nine kills (9-4-27, .185) and added 10 digs and two block assists.
Mackenzie Phelps had a match-best 16 digs. Senior middle blocker
Kristen Johannsen was an efficient attacker with five kills and no errors in 11 tries (.455) and added a team-best three block assists. In just one set, redshirt-freshman middle blocker
Megan Byrnes had four kills without an error in six swings(.667) to with one assist and one block assist.
Senior setter
Jessica Posse had 20 assists and two service aces.
Britta Forsythe had five kills.
The game was GCU's fifth straight on the road. Beginning with an Oct. 31 match against Chicago State at GCU Arena, the Antelopes play seven of their final nine matches at GCU.
