The Grand Canyon University baseball team fell tonight in a non-conference affair, 6-1, to UC San Diego at Triton Ballpark in La Jolla, Calif.
The loss drops the Antelopes to 26-23 with one-game remaining in the 2012 season. UCSD, ranked No. 2 in the West Region, improved to 29-20.
The Tritons got on the board first when Danny Susdorf led off the first with a double off Canyon starting pitcher,
Brady Wager. Richard Seigal followed with a single to put UCSD in front 1-0.
The Antelopes scored their only run of the game in the second inning.
Charles Wagner singled with two outs and scored on an
Ernesto Ortiz double.
UCSD added a run in the fifth after two GCU errors. The Tritons added a pair of runs in both the sixth and seventh innings.
Grand Canyon’s Wagner and Ortiz recorded two-out singles in the ninth, but were unable to score.
Wager (7-4) started for the Antelopes and was charged with the loss. He allowed four runs (three earned) on four hits over 6.0 innings. Wager fanned four and walked three.
The two clubs will meet again tomorrow in the Antelopes’ season finale. First pitch at Triton Ballpark is scheduled for 12 p.m. The game can be followed via live stats and video at
