GAME NOTES
BACK AGAIN: Grand Canyon is in the post season for the second time in school history and second time in the last three years. GCU qualified as a No. 3 seed in 2010 for the NCAA West Regional at Rohnert Park, Calif. The Antelopes are a No. 8 seed this year.
GCU went 0-2, dropping a 5-4 eight-inning decision to Chico State and a 3-2 result to Dixie State in the 2010 NCAA West Regional.
VERSUS THE TOROS: Friday’s contest is the first GCU-CSU Dominguez Hills meeting since March 25, 2010 when the Toros won an 11-9 slugfest in the Tournament of Champions in Turlock, Calif.
GCU’s last trip to CSUDH saw the Antelopes sweep a doubleheader, 8-7 and 5-0 on Feb. 20, 2009.
GCU is 6-14 all-time against CSUDH.
VERSUS THE REST OF THE FIELD: GCU is 5-11 all-time against No. 4 seed Chico State and 6-9-1 against No. 5 seed Sonoma State.
Sonoma State is the only opponent here this weekend it has faced during the regular season. GCU lost 4-0 to the Seawolves on March 31 at the Tournament of Champions in Turlock, Calif.
In its last meeting against Chico State, the Antelopes lost 2-1 on April 2, 2011, also in a Tournament of Champions contest.

Claire Zampini was named to the second team as a utility player and

TOURNEY VETS: Two GCU players are in the post season for the second time. Seniors Holtorf and catcher
Christine Jordan (CJ) Norvell were members of the Antelopes 2010 NCAA West Region team.
Against Chico State and Dixie State, Holtorf went 3-for-6 with two sacrifice hits. Norvell didn’t bat, but had nine putouts and three assists.
RECORD-SETTER: Holtorf has set three new career marks during her senior season. She'll go into Friday's action as GCU's all-time leader in stolen bases (54), runs scored (172) and at-bats (735);.
ABOUT THE COACH: Ann Pierson went over the 250-win mark earlier this season and is 251-219-2 in nine seasons as the Antelopes head coach. She is the only head coach in the program’s history.
The 34-19 record this season marks the program’s third winningest year and third 30-plus win season.
YOUTH MOVEMENT: Grand Canyon’s regular lineup includes five freshmen and two sophomores.

Kayla Henry and Regester are three of only four players that have started all 53 games. Frosh Upshaw has started the last 24 games as the designated player and left fielder
Haley Walker has 43 starts. All five are hitting over .300.
Sophomore
Stephanie Smith is a returning starter and has 48 starts at third base this season. She is hitting .304. Soph Zampini plays second base and outfield and has 40 starts and a .317 average. Zampini was the 2011 Pacific West Conference Freshman of the Year.
Barak leads the Pacific West Conference in hits (72) and RBI (54) and is third in batting average (.424), fourth in runs (42) and slugging percentage (.694). Henry is second in the nation in triples (10) and fourth in the nation in toughest to strikeout (3). She is second in the PacWest with 19 stolen bases. Regester leads GCU in doubles (13) and ranks fourth in the conference. Upshaw is hitting .350, fourth best on the club, and is third in RBI (26) and second in slugging percentage (.534).
