Freshmen
Haley Walker,
Kiley Raica and
Kelsey Barak were each awarded PacWest Softball Player of the Week honors for performances in February. The awards were announced by the league office Feb. 27.
Walker and Raica were named for their play during the first week of the season, Feb. 1-5.
Barak was selected for week 3, Feb. 13-19.
Walker hit .600 with two RBI, two walks and a sacrifice bunt during the initial week of the season. Raica was named the Pitcher of the Week. She threw a shutout in her first collegiate game, an 8-0 win over Western New Mexico. She was 2-0 on the week with a 2.00 ERA. She struck out seven and gave up just four earned runs in two complete game victories.
GCU was 4-0 in week 3, Barak hit .538, going 7-for-13 with five runs scored, two doubles, one triple and one home run with nine RBI. She had a 1.077 slugging percentage and .563 on-base mark.
A number of players earned PacWest Weekly Top 10 Honor Roll recognition.
Lauren Regester,
Kiki Sepulveda and
Lisa Tarnowski were week 1 selections. Regester hit .545 with two runs, a double and RBI. Sepulveda had a 3-0 complete game shutout win over Western New Mexico and Tarnowski had a pair of three-run home runs and eight RBI total for the four-game stretch.
Raica,
Claire Zampini and
Kara Holtorf were selected to the week 3 honor roll. Raica went 3-0 with a 1.19 ERA in four appearances, including two complete game shutouts. Zampini had a .467 batting average in GCU’s 4-0 week. She was 7-for-15 with six runs scored, two doubles, two stolen bases and an RBI. Holtorf hit .462 (6-for-13) with six runs scored, two RBI and one double.
GCU is back in action this weekend, opening the Pacific West Conference season at Academy of Art. GCU will play doubleheaders Saturday and Sunday in San Francisco, starting at 4 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday. Fans can follow Sunday’s doubleheader with live stats provided by the host school.
