The No. 18 Grand Canyon University women’s basketball team defeated Chaminade, 90-48, tonight at GCU Arena. With the win, the Antelopes improved to 7-2 overall and 2-0 in the Pacific West Conference, while the Silverswords fell to 0-5 overall and 0-2 in conference play.
The win was the sixth straight for GCU as they improved to 15-0 all-time against Chaminade.

The 90 points mark a season-high for GCU and the most since scoring 94 on Jan. 29, 2011 vs. BYU-Hawai’i. The ‘Lopes were led by
Judy Jones with 23 points and 10 rebounds, her fourth consecutive double-double performance. Three other ‘Lopes scored in double-digits, as
Jasmine Cannon collected 14 points and
Maylinn Smith and
Justine Johnson finished with 10.
GCU shot 40.7 percent (11-for-27) in the first half, led by Jones with 11 points. Cannon added eight points. The Silverswords shot 29.0 percent from the field (9-for-31) in the first 20 minutes.
The Silverswords committed 17 first-half turnovers, which resulted in 19 points for GCU, and that number turned into 44 points off 33 Chaminade turnovers for the game. The ‘Lopes also held a significant advantage with 22 points in the paint.
GCU’s defense allowed just two points to Chaminade for the first seven minutes of the contest as they took an early 12-2 lead. The Silverswords took a 15-14 lead with just over nine minutes to play after utilizing a 9-0, three-minute run that cut into GCU’s 14-6 lead. The ‘Lopes responded with a 7-0 run of their own to reclaim a 21-15 lead with 8:56 remaining in the half.
GCU took their first double-digit lead of the game with three and a half minutes remaining in the first half (29-18) and took that same margin into the locker room at the half (34-23).
The ‘Lopes opened the second half on a 9-0 run to build a 20-point lead at 43-23 with just under 18 minutes to play. The Silverswords scored the next six points of the contest but were then held scoreless for over four minutes as GCU extended their lead to 54-29 with 12:46 to play.
GCU outscored the Silverswords 36-19 for the remainder of the game, as the final score served as their largest lead of the contest. The 56 points scored in the second half marked the most in a half for GCU this season.
For the half, GCU shot 63.9 percent (23-for-36) compared to just 34.6 percent (9-for-26) for Chaminade in the second half.
