Senior forward
Saeed Robinson has been named to the 2012 Daktronics NCAA Division II Men’s Soccer All-America First Team after recently garnering Daktronics West Region Player of the Year accolades.
The Portmore, Jamaica native was an All-America Third Team selection last season.
“Saeed deserves this honor,” said head coach Petar Draksin. “I was disappointed that he didn’t get it last year. I am thrilled that this year people recognized his effort and his talent. It is an honor for our program and for Saeed individually because anytime a player gets All-America recognition, it speaks volumes about the talent of the young man and the level of the program. We were honored to have had him for two years and I never had any doubt that Saeed was one of the top players in the nation in Division II soccer.”
Robinson, who was also named Pacific West Conference Player of the Year, led the conference and the West Region with 18 goals and finished his senior campaign with 42 points. Following the regular season, he also ranked tied for fourth nationally with 2.35 points per game and fifth with 1.00 goal per game. Robinson was selected as the 2012 PacWest Preseason Player of the Year after being named Newcomer of the Year last season.
"Saeed himself would be the first to tell you that without his teammates, this recognition would not be possible," added Draksin. "He received this award with his name on it, but it also recognizes his teammates."
The Antelopes made it to this year’s NCAA Division II Men’s Soccer Sweet 16 before dropping a 2-1 contest to second-ranked Simon Fraser. GCU was ranked in the top-25 for the entire season and posted a 15-3-2 overall record. The 'Lopes also won their fifth Pacific West Conference crown in the past seven seasons.
