The Grand Canyon University men’s basketball team defeated Cal State Dominguez Hills, 78-69, tonight in their final game as part of the GCU Thanksgiving Classic. The win was the fourth straight for the Antelopes as they improved their overall record to 5-2, while the Toros fell to 4-3 on the season.

GCU was led by
Joshua Lowery with 19 points, the second straight game that he has led the squad in that category.
Jerome Garrison added 13 points and
Braylon Pickrel had 12.
Killian Larson and
Brad Carroll led the team with five rebounds apiece.
The ‘Lopes shot 44.4 percent from the field (24-for-54) and drained nine of their 18 attempted three-pointers. The Toros went 21-for-55 from the field (38.2 percent). Dominguez Hills led the way with 23 points in the paint, while the ‘Lopes utilized players of the bench to accumulate 22 points.
GCU shot 56.7 percent (17-for-30) from the field in the first half, including an 8-for-12 mark (66.7 percent) from the behind the arc. Dominguez Hills held the advantage in rebounds with 22 compared to 12 boards for the ‘Lopes.
GCU scored 12 points off eight Toros turnovers and saw 16 of their first half points come from the bench.
GCU held the Toros scoreless for nearly three minutes as they built a 25-11 lead by virtue of a 9-0 run during that time. The ‘Lopes led by as many as 15 in the first 20 minutes when they took a 40-25 lead on a Carroll jumper.
The Toros pulled within nine, 42-33, in the final minute before the ‘Lopes ended the half with a three-pointer from Lowery. GCU took a 45-33 advantage into the locker room led by Pickrel with 12 points. Lowery added nine points at the half.
After Dominguez Hills once again made it a nine-point game, GCU scored five unanswered points to build the lead to 54-40 with under 14 minutes to play. The ‘Lopes held a double-digit lead until the Toros drained two free throws to make it an eight point game, 64-56, with 4:31 on the clock.
The two teams then traded baskets, with GCU holding the slight advantage 14-13, as the ‘Lopes continued to hold the lead for the remainder of the game. The ‘Lopes were outshot in the final 20 minutes, as the Toros posted a 37.0 percent mark compared to 29.2 percent for GCU.
