The Grand Canyon University men’s soccer team hosted a soccer clinic last week for local kids in the community as part of a partnership between GCU men’s soccer and Boy Scouts of America.
An opening speech from Boy Scouts of America began the clinic, which talked about the foundation of leadership, the importance of standing up for what is right and being a responsible citizen. The children in attendance, who were each given a t-shirt, participated in a scouting activity where they created launchers from rulers and rubber bands.
Following that, the children were able to participate in soccer drills with the assistance of members of the soccer team. The players and coaches taught the children how to strike the ball, run through a variety of drills and informed them about the game of soccer. Many of these children came from nearby Serrano Village Apartments and at a young age, are already ardent followers of the Antelopes.
