The Grand Canyon University women’s soccer team fell, 3-1, to host Point Loma today in San Diego, Calif. The loss snapped a season-long six game win streak for the Antelopes, who are now 9-5-2 overall and 8-2-2 in the Pacific West Conference. The Sea Lions improved to 11-3-1 overall and 8-2-1 in conference play.
GCU held the slight advantage in shots, 12-11, placing seven of those on goal. However, an early offensive outburst by Point Loma proved to be the difference in the contest.

The Sea Lions got on the board first when Brooke Winklepleck nailed a shot to the top of the box in just the second minute of the game. Amanda Mitchell scored two goals, the first in the sixth minute and the second in the 17
th minute, to give Point Loma a 3-0 lead early in the contest.
Samantha Bush found the back of the net with just under one minute remaining in the first half to cut Point Loma’s lead to 3-1. GCU outshot the Sea Lions in the first 45 minutes, 6-4, and also held the advantage with four shots on goal compared to three for Point Loma.
The two squads were on the defense for the final 45 minutes as neither team was able to record a goal. Point Loma attempted seven shots in the second half, while the ‘Lopes tried six.
