Hello to my fellow students, faculty and friends of GCU!
The school year has started and the summer was really short. I didn’t have the opportunity to race as much this summer because it seemed I had one injury after another; I am just now starting to feel healthy.
I got a chance to visit some cities around the U.S. and share our message of hope, hard work and faith. I must say it was very encouraging. We visited boy’s and girl’s clubs, schools and youth groups in Kansas City, Wichita, Chicago, Little Rock, Fargo, Minneapolis, St. Louis, Nashville, Atlanta, Dallas, Greenville, S.C., Louisville and San Juan, Puerto Rico. Although busy, the kids seemed to enjoy and embrace the challenge of finding their purpose in life and working hard to be successful. I handed out GCU memorabilia wherever I went, from t-shirts to pens to cup that turn purple when you put water in them.
This will be a big year as I head towards my goal of qualifying for the 2012 Olympics and competing in several cycling events. My coaches tell me, “This is an opportunity that doesn’t come around often so seize the day and give it your all because you never want to wake up in the future and say I could have done THAT”. So you will see me riding, running and hitting the gym hard. If I look down or tired please feel free to give me a pat on the back or hugs work just as well. I really want to make you proud; win or lose I will give it my best.
I just finished racing at the National Bike League’s Grand Nationals in Louisville, Ky. I had a good weekend going undefeated (LOPES UP) and I am preparing for the Pan-American Games in Mexico City in October. This is the set-up for the 2012 Olympics with 150 counties attending. This will be a good indicator of what I need to work on. I will keep you up to date every week and see you on campus.
