Dominique 3D Daniels-Day 3 Guadalajara Pan American Games:
This morning I had breakfast with an athlete from Jamaica and Uryugauy and my day was off to a good start. I am trying my best to have meals with as many people from different counties as I can. We were off to practice were the track is “almost” ready to race but the practice went well. We have some of the top riders in the world here. On the women’s side Mariana Pajon-the world’s No.1 woman, Arielle Martin –she just won the last Super Cross race at Chula Vista, and Amada Carr who just missed the podium in the London Olympic test race in August. The men have Connor Fields and Nick Long who finished first and third, respectively, in the last Super Cross event at Chula Vista, Christian Beccerine an Olympian from 2008 and several other Olympians who I can’t pronounce, so the racing tomorrow should be good. No major crashes today as everyone seems to be getting primed for race day. As you can see from the photos this is a very technical and big track (not my favorite) but I have my strategy figured out and I will do my best.
I saw some strange looking mascots today in the cafeteria, one looks like a lion, a deer, and a starfish, I was told they are famous in Mexico but I didn’t get it. We went to the international area and talked to a lot of people, took a lot of photos and generally had a good time. It was interesting to see some of the sports here; you can check the Pan American Games 2011 website and you will see but I was surprised to see bowling, dancing, handball which resembles more like rugby meets basketball with a little soccer thrown in for good measure.
I will be turning in early as we race at 9am and I would actually like to get one good night sleep while I am here and yes they finally fixed our hot water!
