The Grand Canyon University baseball program announced the additions of Ryan Cisterna and Braden Wells to the staff of head coach Andy Stankiewicz.
“We are very excited to have Ryan Cisterna and Braden Wells come on
board to complete our coaching staff,” said Stankiewicz. “Coach Cisterna will be a tremendous asset for our catchers and brings a wealth of experience to our players. Coach Wells was known for his hustle and discipline on the field and I know it will carry onto his coaching career and benefit our club. He will be an asset in assisting Ryan Ruiz in the development of our hitters and outfielders.”
Cisterna attended the University of Arkansas and played in the College World Series in Omaha, Neb. Prior to his time with Arkansas, he played for Chandler-Gilbert Community College. Cisterna was drafted by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim and played three seasons of professional baseball. He will also direct GCU’s baseball camps throughout the year.
Wells played at PacWest foe Dixie State, before transferring to Oregon State. Wells was a mainstay in the Oregon State lineup and helped lead the Beavers to a College World Series title. He played for Brophy College Preparatory in Phoenix and was an All-State selection his senior season.
Stankiewicz was named GCU's head coach on April 25. He hired Nathan Choate from UC Riverside as his pitching coach and recruiting coordinator on June 10. Ryan Ruiz came onboard as an assistant coach on June 13, after a four-year tenure with Central Arizona College.
