Grand Canyon University’s softball program has added two more signees for the 2011-12 season.
California junior college transfer Kiki Sepulveda, a utility player, and pitcher Kiley Raica (pictured on front page), of Arizona state champion Tucson Canyon del Oro, have signed with the Antelopes.
Sepulveda played for Santa Ana College and is from Corona, Calif. She split time as a pitcher and position player. She hit .322 last season and went 8-2 as a pitcher with three shutouts and another combined shutout.
“Kiki is a true utility player,” said GCU coach Ann Pierson. “She will be a force on the mound and can play anywhere when she’s not pitching. She’s a power hitter with speed and a true competitor.”
Raica was key component of the 35-1 CDO team that was ranked No. 4 in the nation by MaxPreps. She had a 1.55 ERA and opponents hit just .181 against her. She had a 12-1 record with two saves and a team-high six shutouts. In 77 innings pitched, she had 71 strikeouts.
“Kiley will bring added depth to the pitching circle,” said Pierson. “She throws a variety of pitches with a tremendous change-up. She locates all of her pitches well and attacks the zone.”
Raica is the second player from CDO to sign with GCU. Outfielder/first baseman Kayla Henry signed in November along with middle infielder Kelsey Barak (Etiwanda, Calif.) and outfielder/catcher Brandi Gaffin (Glendale Mountain Ridge).
Earlier this summer, GCU signed shortstop Nicole Upshaw (Chandler Hamilton) and outfielder Haley Walker (Phoenix Pinnacle).
