The University of Hawai'i at Hilo swept both ends of a Pacific West Conference doubleheader against Grand Canyon University today in Brisbane, Calif., winning by scores of 2-0 and 8-0.
The Antelopes fell to 12-13 overall, 5-7 in the PacWest. The Vulcans improved to 15-8, 13-3.
GCU managed just four hits in the first game, two by senior outfielder
Teddy Barry (Glendale, AZ/Greenway, Phoenix College) and one each by senior third baseman
Montana Lucas (Glendale, AZ/Cactus, Phoenix College) and senior first baseman
Michelle Rasmussen (Puyallup, WA/Emerald Ridge, Arizona Western College).
Junior Ivy Campas
(Tucson, AZ/Sunnyside, Phoenix College) took the loss. She pitched seven innings and allowed eight hits and two runs, one of which was earned. She walked three and recorded five strikeouts. Her season record now is 4-8.
The 'Lopes had two errors in the game.
Hawai'i Hilo had eight hits, and scored its first run in the top of the first inning and its second in the top of the seventh.
GCU had only two hits in he second game, one each by freshman second baseman
Claire Zampini (Phoenix, AZ/Deer Valley) and Rasmussen.
Freshman
Dani Jackman (Mill Creek, WA/Henry M. Jackson) started for the 'Lopes. She pitched four innings and gave up four hits and four runs, all of which were earned. She walked six and had one strikeout.
Campas pitched the remaining 1.2 innings and allowed one hit and four runs, none of which were earned. She walked three and had no strikeouts.
Jackman took the loss. Her season record now is 2-3.
The Vulcans had five hits and scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth, four in the fifth and one in the sixth.
