GCU Up To No. 8, Plays for Share of Pacific West Conference Title Wednesday

Grand Canyon continues to move up in the national polls.
The Antelopes, winners of a school-record 25 games this season, are No. 8 in the USA Today/ESPN Division II Top 25 Coaches’ Poll, released Tuesday.
GCU was No. 9 last week. The Antelopes have won 13 straight games and are 13-1 and in first place in the Pacific West Conference. With only two games remaining, including Wednesday’s contest at BYU-Hawai’i, GCU is closing in on a fourth PacWest title in the past five years. GCU won championships in 2007, 2008 and 2009.
The conference winner will get an automatic berth into the NCAA West Region. GCU went to the West Region in 2009.
Along with the regular-season winner in the PacWest, conference tournament champions in the California Collegiate Athletic Association and Great Northwest Athletic Conference will get bids along with five at-large teams selected from the three leagues.
Currently, GCU is ranked No. 3 in the West Region. The next region poll will be released Wednesday.

Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m. Arizona Time. (5 p.m. in Hawai’i).
