For the first time this season, Grand Canyon was voted into the NCAA West Region Top 10 Rankings. The Antelopes (10-7, 5-2) come in at No. 9. The top eight advance to the NCAA West Region Tournament.
"It's great for us and it's great for us to help keep our motivation and focus during a tough part of the season," said coach Russ Pennell. "(The poll) shows you're close to the national playoffs and this will help keep our guys locked in."
Four Pacific West Conference teams are among the region's Top 10. Dixie State is No. 6. BYU-Hawai'i is No. 7 and Chaminade is No. 8.
On Thursday, the Antelopes will be locked in on Academy of Art (5-15, 2-8), one of only two teams to beat them in Pacific West Conference play. The Urban Knights knocked off the 'Lopes 60-58 in San Francisco, scoring on a bucket by Keith Davis with only 1.3 seconds remaining.
GCU had won three straight after the loss prior to falling 70-59 to Dixie State Saturday.
"You're going to have some setbacks, but it's how you react to the setbacks," said Pennell. "You can't dwell on the big wins and you can't dwell on the tough losses. We're going to do what we do and try to make it better. We're going to try to improve and learn from our mistakes."
Tip-off for Thursday's contest is 7:15 p.m. Admission is free. In lieu of an admission fee, GCU is accepting donations for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
