Grand Canyon looks to close out the first-ever unbeaten home season in its last season at Antelope Gymnasium tonight.
The GCU women’s basketball team, ranked No. 10 in the USA Today/ESPN Division II Coaches Top 25 Poll and No. 5 in the NCAA West Region, takes on Notre Dame de Namur at 5 p.m.
GCU is 22-2 on the season and 10-1 and in first-place in the Pacific West Conference. The ‘Lopes are also trying to tie the school record for wins. The 2006-07 team finished 23-4.
Earlier this season, GCU set a record for home wins in a season. The ‘Lopes are 13-0 at the gym, opened in the 1994-95 season, and have won 14 straight on the home floor.
Senior All-America candidate,
Samantha Murphy, the nation’s leading scorer and GCU’s all-time leading scorer, is closing in on the 2,000-point mark for her career. Murphy is only 34 points away from achieving the milestone. Senior teammate
Rosalyn Nelson, second on the all-time list and the all-time leader in assists and steals, is only 13 points away from 1,500 for her career.
GCU will have four regular-season games remaining in Hawai’i after wrapping up the home season tonight.
Next season, GCU will play in its new 5,000-seat on-campus facility, Grand Canyon University Arena.
