In the final tune-up prior to the Grand Canyon Duals, fifth-ranked Grand Canyon will wrestle at the Colorado Mesa Open at Brownson
Arena in Grand Junction, Colo. Saturday.
Along with prepping for their Dec. 31 event at Grand Canyon University Arena, the Antelopes will get a look at some of their upcoming competition in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
GCU is joining host No. 18 Colorado Mesa, No. 9 Adams State and Western State of the RMAC, as well as Division I foes No. 14 Wyoming, Utah Valley and Northern Colorado.
“This is a good opportunity to see some RMAC teams and they’ll be some good competition in every weight class,” said GCU head coach R.C. LaHaye. “This gives us some additional early season mat time to prepare us for the Grand Canyon Duals.”
Wrestling begins at 9 a.m. and fans can keep up with results by following the live stats link at TrackWrestling.com.
GCU brings a strong group to Saturday’s event, including seventh-ranked Kyle McCrite at 125, unbeaten Celic Bell at 194 and Jordan Johnson, who has already won two tournaments this season, at heavyweight.
Two-time All-American Victor Carazo will make his debut as an unattached wrestler in the 174-class.
