Grand Canyon begins play in the NCAA Division II West Regional Tournament today in San Bernardino, Calif.
GCU (22-6) takes on UC San Diego (21-5) at 3:30 p.m. (Arizona time) at Coussoulis Arena on the campus of CSU San Bernardino.
The ‘Lopes are the No. 7 seed in the tournament and on a 14-match winning streak. This is GCU’s first tournament appearance since 1995 and third overall trip to the NCAAs (also went in 1993).
Head coach Kris Naber's club was picked to finish sixth in the Pacific West Conference this season, but finished second, going 12-4 in league play. The team made a huge turnaround from 2010 after going 10-19.
If GCU wins it will move to Friday’s semifinal round against the winner of the Sonoma State-Hawai’i Hilo match which precedes the GCU-UCSD contest. Later in the evening, BYU-Hawai’i takes on Seattle Pacific and CSU San Bernardino battles Alaska-Anchorage.
Fans unable to make the trip to San Bernardino can follow all the action at the NCAA West Regional Volleyball Tournament
