Grand Canyon begins its eight-game homestand tonight when it welcomes Chaminade at 7 :15 p.m. in Antelope Gymnasium.
It's also the first of two straight games against teams ahead of the 'Lopes in the Pacific West Conference standings.
GCU is 8-6 overall and 3-1 in the PacWest. Chaminade is 11-5 and 4-0 in league play. On Saturday, GCU takes on BYU-Hawai'i, also 4-0 in the conference. Saturday's game begins at Noon and will be nationally-televised by the CBS College Sports Network.
"(Chaminade) will be a good test and it will be good to play at home, but wherever we play them it's going to be a tough one" said GCU coach Russ Pennell.
GCU is looking for its first win in Antelope Gym over Chaminade in over four years. The 'Lopes last beat the Silverswords in Phoenix, 86-72, on Jan. 20, 2007. When the 'Lopes beat Chaminade in Honolulu last Feb. 18, it snapped a six-game losing streak against the Hawaiian school.
"We're real excited to be back at home. This is my favorite gym I've ever played in and it'll be good to get back to playing in front of the home fans," said junior
Nick Witherill (Phoenix, Ariz., Highland, Washington State).
