Wrestlers Knock Off No. 8 San Francisco State

The No. 13 Grand Canyon University wrestling team defeated No. 8 San Francisco State, 28-9, tonight at Van Dyne Gym in Riverside Calif.
The Antelopes won seven of the 10 matches in the dual.
San Francisco State took the first match, as Isaiah Jimenez defeated GCU’s Mike Fucci at 165 pounds, 7-1, in three overtimes.
The ‘Lopes rolled from there, picking up three consecutive major decision wins to take a commanding 12-3 lead.
No. 4 Victor Carazo got things started with a 12-4 win over the Gators’ Gene Choi at 174. The match was closely contested, with Carazo leading 4-2 after two periods. Carazo would use three takedowns in the final period to pick up the four team points. Ryan Becerra followed suit, picking up a 9-1 win over SFSU’s Zach Jimenez at 184. Becerra used a pair of near falls in the final two periods to record the win. Mid-year transfer Eli Arizmendez continued to shine for GCU, winning 9-1 at 197. He is now 12-0 since joining the team this month.
GCU would receive some good news at 125 as Madison Gambrell picked up his first win of the season. Gambrell dominated early, en route to a 15-4 major decision win over No. 8 Pierre Bondoc.
No. 2 Todd Wilcox continued his successful season, winning 7-2 over the Gators’ Isaiah Hurtado at 133. Wilcox trailed 2-1 in the third, but used a takedown and near fall in the final 1:31 to give GCU a 25-3 lead.
GCU is now 10-4 in duals this season, having won their last six.
The Antelopes return to action this evening with a dual against host Cal Baptist.
