Grand Canyon is looking for its sixth straight win when it takes on Academy of Art tonight at San Francisco State University. The game was moved to SFSU due to an issue at Kezar Pavilon, Academy of Art’s home floor.
The Antelopes (7-5, 2-0) are looking to start 3-0 in the Pacific West Conference for only the second time since rejoining the league in 2006-07. GCU went 3-0 to begin the 2007-08 campaign.
Its current five-game win streak is the second longest under head coach Russ Pennell, in his second season at GCU. The ‘Lopes finished 2009-10 with six consecutive victories.
“When you play on the road, the deck is always stacked against you,” said Pennell, whose team picked up a hard-earned road win Tuesday at Notre Dame de Namur. “It’s always a challenge.”
GCU shot 50 percent from the field in Tuesday’s 83-70 win. It was the fourth straight game shooting 50 percent or better. It held NDNU to 48.1 percent. The ‘Lopes have held opponents under 50 percent shooting eight straight games.
The ‘Lopes are 2-0 all-time against the Urban Knights. Tonight's tip-off is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. Mountain Standard Time. GCU will wrap up its three-game road trip at Dominican University, located in San Rafael, Calif., Saturday
