GCU RECRUITS WORLD-CLASS BMX CHAMPION
7/27/2010 4:40:56 PM | Dominique Daniels - BMX
In a show of its commitment to the growth of non-mainstream athletes, Grand Canyon University has recruited America's number-one female BMX rider Dominique Daniels to attend the university on full tuition scholarship.
"I am honored to receive this scholarship and I will do all that I can to ensure that I am not the last BMX rider who makes it this far, and more importantly show the guys and girls following me that education doesn't stop after high school whether you ride a bike, are a skateboarder or even a snowboarder," Daniels said.
A resident of Gilbert, Ariz., Daniels has performed as an amateur since the age of 14. She won her first pro BMX title at age 17 and achieved the world title at age 15. She is considered one of the front runners for the 2012 Olympic Games in London.
"We are ecstatic to have an athlete of Dominique's ability. Premier athletes, whether BMX or any other sport, are fortunate to have the choice of when and where to attend school and we're glad she chose GCU," said GCU Athletic Director Keith Baker. "With Dominique's commitment to Boys and Girls Clubs and other youth organizations promoting exercise, education and ethics, she'll be an excellent representative of GCU."
