The Grand Canyon University softball team is ranked No. 19 in the latest NFCA Division II Top 25 poll, released today.
The Antelopes (34-11 overall, 15-9 in the Pacific West Conference) also were ranked No. 3 in the most recent NCAA Division II West Region poll released on April 7. They are one of four Pacific West Conference teams in that poll. The others are No. 1 Hawai'i Pacific (20-2), No. 6 Hawai'i Hilo (17-7) and No. 9 Dixie State (13-5).
The top eight teams in each region are selected to the NCAA Division II National Tournament in May.
In other news, GCU senior second baseman Kelli Bridges (Coeur d'Alene, ID/Lake City) has been named to the PacWest Softball Weekly Top 10 Honor Roll. The honor, for games played April 5-11, was announced late yesterday by the PacWest Media Office in Phoenix.
Bridges batted .538 (7-for-13) with three doubles, five RBIs and two runs scored. She also walked once and was hit by a pitch. She had a .769 slugging percentage and a .600 on-base percentage.
Bridges was named PacWest Player of the Week on Feb. 22. 'Lopes junior left fielder Teddy Barry (Phoenix, AZ/Greenway) has been named PacWest Player of the Week twice, on March 29 and on Feb. 15, and senior designated player Tracy Lubken (Scottsdale, AZ/Horizon) was named Player of the Week on March 22.
In addition, GCU sophomore Ivy Campas (Tucson, AZ/Sunnyside) was named PacWest Pitcher of the Week on April 5 and on Feb. 22, and senior Amy Searcy (Bixby, OK/Bixby) received the same honor on March 22.
