Senior pitcher Amy Searcy (Bixby, OK/Bixby) threw a no-hitter in Game One and Grand Canyon University pounded out 34 hits and scored 30 runs in a doubleheader sweep of Brigham Young University-Hawaii today in Laie, Hawaii. The Antelopes won the games by scores of 12-0 and 18-5, and improved their record to 16-4 overall and 6-4 in the Pacific West Conference.
The Seasiders fell to 0-13, 0-5.
Searcy pitched six innings, walked two, had two strikeouts and faced the minimum 18 batters. She now is 8-2 on the season. Sophomore center fielder Kara Holtorf (Peoria, AZ/Sunrise Mountain) went 2-for-5 with two RBI and one run scored, junior left fielder Teddy Barry (Phoenix, AZ/Greenway) was 2-for-4 with one RBI and two runs scored, senior second baseman Kelli Bridges (Couer d'Alene, ID/Lake City) went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run scored, junior first baseman Michelle Rasmussen (Puyallup, WA/Emerald Ridge) was 1-for-4 with a grand-slam home run, sophomore catcher Christine Jordan Norvell (Gilbert, AZ/Mesquite) went 2-for-4 with one run scored, and sophomore shortstop Kaycee Gamez (Eugene, OR/Sheldon) was 2-for-3 with one RBI and three runs scored.
GCU had 12 hits in the game and did not strike out once. BYU-Hawaii made five errors.
In Game Two, the 'Lopes scored seven runs in the first two innings and eight in the seventh. Senior right fielder Nicki Lorenzi (Phoenix, AZ/Horizon) went 2-for-5 with a double and two runs scored; Holtorf was 4-for-6 with one RBI, a double, stolen base and three runs scored; senior designated hitter Tracy Lubken (Scottsdale, AZ/Horizon) went 4-for-5 with six RBI, two doubles, a triple and four runs scored; Barry was 3-for-5 with four RBI, a triple, home run and three runs scored; junior third baseman Montana Lucas (Glendale, AZ/Cactus) went 3-for-5 with one RBI, three doubles and one run scored; and Norvell was 2-for-3 with one RBI, a double and two runs scored.
Sophomore pitcher Ivy Campas (Tucson, AZ/Sunnyside) started for GCU and pitched 2 1/3 innings. She allowed three hits and one run (it was unearned), walked three and had no strikeouts. She was replaced by junior Katherine Hulet (Mesa, AZ/Dobson), who went 4 2/3 innings and gave up nine hits and four runs (all of them earned), walked one and struck out one.
Again, the 'Lopes did not strike out at all in the game. Seasiders freshman Hannah Bateman did not start but pitched five innings, allowed 17 hits and 11 runs (all of them earned) and walked one.
GCU and BYU-Hawaii will play another twin bill tomorrow.
