BELMONT, Calif. -- Rudy Bogan may have summed it up right.
"Speechless," Grand Canyon's most consistent scorer said after the Antelopes lost to Notre Dame de Namur 81-69 Saturday night to cap the season.
No words to describe a team with potential that didn't live up to it.
Grand Canyon (12-15, 6-12 PacWest) ran into a second half stumbling block, and Notre Dame de Namur (10-14, 6-10) capitalized, sending the Antelopes home empty.
"We just came up short," said senior guard Mike Grothaus, who always tried to play with the type of fast-pace furry his coach preached all season but just couldn't elicit from his squad. "We just never could find the right track. We just couldn't close games out."
GCU led 24-22 following one of two Bogan free throws with 6:14 to play in the first half, but the Lopes found themselves down nine less than four minutes later, and never led in the second half.
Bogan finished with 22 points, five rebounds, two blocks and a steal. He hit five of nine three-pointers, capping his season with a .536 percentage from beyond the arc, which ranked among the nation's best. Andray Glenn (pictured) had nine points and five boards as he capped his days in Antelope purple.
"It'll probably sink in tomorrow," Glenn said.
Strikingly similar. A speechless answer.
Grothaus had eight points, four rebounds and a steal, sinking all eight of his free throws. David Gonzales had 11 points, and Milee Karre nine.
Chris Clock scored 18 and Aaron Parker 15 for the Argonauts.
"You always want to end it on a win," said Grothaus, who will remain an assistant coach next season. "Everything you do, you have to work hard. I think that's what coach (Scott) Mossman does. He teaches you to work hard.
"It's just one of those years. We'll be better next year. We'll be ready."
