Grand Canyon University junior outfielder Teddy Barry (Phoenix, AZ/Greenway HS) has been named Pacific West Conference Softball Player of the Week.
The honor, for games played Feb. 8-14, was announced today by the PacWest Media Office in Phoenix.
Barry led Antelopes to a 5-0 week by batting .563 with nine RBI, nine runs scored, two doubles and two homers. She was 9-for-16 at the plate, walked four times and stole two bases, and had a phenomenal 1.063 slugging mark and .650 on-base rate.
Four other GCU players were named to the PacWest Softball Weekly Honor Roll.
Sophomore pitcher Ivy Campas (Tucson, AZ/Sunnyside HS) earned two wins and posted a 1.80 ERA in tossing two complete games, including a shutout. She allowed two earned runs in 10 innings of action while striking out 10, and permitted just a .194 batting average.
Sophomore shortstop Kaycee Gamez (Eugene, OR/Sheldon HS) batted .438 (7-for-16) in five starts, drove in eight runs, scored six and doubled twice. She also walked twice and had a .563 slugging rate to go along with a .474 on-base average.
Sophomore outfielder Kara Holtorf (Peoria, AZ/Sunrise Mountain HS) scored 11 runs and batted .474. She was 9-for-19 with a double and two RBI, had a .526 slugging rate and a .500 on-base mark, walked once and was 3-for-3 in stolen-base attempts.
And senior pitcher Amy Searcy (Bixby, OK/Bixby HS) posted a 3-0 record, struck out 13 in 17 innings and had a 3.71 ERA. She tossed two complete games and earned another victory in relief.
In addition, three GCU players were named to the PacWest Softball Weekly Honor Roll for games played Feb. 1-7. That honor also was announced today by the PacWest Media Office.
Campas recorded a 5-0 shutout in the ‘Lopes’ first game of the season on Feb. 5. She tossed a complete game, blanking Sonoma (CA) State. She struck out one, scattered four hits and allowed a .174 batting average.
Gamez hit .600 (3-for-5), had two doubles, a triple, scored three times and walked twice. She had a 1.400 slugging percentage and a .714 on-base average.
And Searcy recorded a 7-1 victory over Cal State Monterey Bay on Feb. 5. She tossed a complete game, striking out four in seven innings. She had 1.29 ERA and allowed just five hits.
