LA JOLLA, Calif. – Grand Canyon lost twice to No. 3 UC San Diego Saturday at Triton Ballpark.

GCU (3-5) lost the opener 15-2. Senior first baseman John Stanko (Mesa, Ariz./Desert Ridge/Wayland Baptist) had two hits, including his first home run of the season a solo shot to left field to cut the Tritons lead to 3-1 in the fourth inning.

Stanko doubled and scored the team's second run in the ninth. He scored after two were out and the Tritons erred on a ground ball off the bat of junior right fielder Tyler Bair (Scottsdale, Ariz./Coronado).

The 'Lopes dropped game 2, 15-0. GCU had just three hits. Bair, freshman second baseman Mike Kenneth (Chandler, Ariz./Marcos de Niza) and sophomore center fielder Joey Bristyan (Scottsdale, Ariz./Horizon) each had singles.

GCU begins play in the Pacific West Conference Feb. 19-20 at Brazell Stadium with a pair of doubleheaders against defending PacWest champ Dixie State College.
