After a 13 day layoff, Grand Canyon’s men’s basketball team resumes the 2010-11 season with the Grand Canyon University/Crowne Plaza December Classic.
The Antelopes (2-5) will take on Simon Fraser (2-3) 6 p.m. Friday at Antelope Gymnasium. Prior to the GCU contest, defending Division II national champion Cal Poly Pomona will play Montana State Billings at 4 p.m.
On Saturday, GCU will play Billings (1-6) at 6 p.m. Pomona and Simon Fraser follow at 8 p.m. GCU’s 19th-ranked women’s basketball team will also play Saturday, against Fresno Pacific at 4 p.m.
The men’s basketball team has just three more games in 2010 and until the Pacific West Conference portion of the schedule begins.
Following this weekend’s contests, GCU will play Dec. 30 against Phoenix’s Southwestern Bible College, also 6 p.m. at Antelope Gymnasium. The PacWest season opens on the road in St. George, Utah at Dixie State College Jan. 8.
Billed as North Pole Weekend, all games at GCU are free. In lieu of an admission fee, GCU is accepting donations for new unwrapped toys for the Canyon Cares Toy Drive and fans will then be entered in a raffle. The prize winner will be announced at halftime.
