Grand Canyon comes up short to Chico St.
ROHNERT PARK, Calif. -- Grand Canyon lost to Chico State, 3-1, Sunday in the penultimate game at the SeawolfInvitational hosted by Sonoma State University.
The Antelopes have lost six straight.
GCU (20-13) has gone 3-9 in March with one game remaining in the tournament at 11 a.m. today against Cal State Monterey Bay. The Antelopes return home this weekend to host San Francisco State Friday and Saturday in a pair of West Region doubleheaders beginning at noon Friday. Saturday's games begin at 11 a.m.
Randi Johns (pictured) was 1 for 3, driving in the Antelopes' lone run in the sixth inning. But by that time, the Lopes were trailing 3-0.
Tracy Lubken was 2 for 3 with a double, and Yasmeen Watkins 1 for 3 with a stolen base.
Grand Canyon pitcher Sammi Tiefenthaler took the loss, allowing six hits, two earned runs and no walks. Natasha Dypchey worked the final three innings to perfection, allowing no runs, no hits and no walks.
GCU managed just five hits off Chico pitcher Lauren Walker. Chico's Charlotte Honciano had two hits and drove in two runs.
