GCU hopes busiest weekend of season provides wins

Grand Canyon's trip to Florida is far from a vacation.
The Lopes men's volleyball team will have its most active weekend of the season with five matches in three days at the Royal Volleyball Challenge in Lake Wales, Fla.
GCU (2-19) will take on Lees-McRae and Missouri Baptist on Friday, Cardinal Stritch and Fontbonne on Saturday and finish the trip against the host school, Warner Southern, on Sunday.
It will be the third time this season the Lopes have played Lees-McRae. GCU lost twice, once in five sets.
After taking on the likes of UCLA, Loyola-Chicago and Ball State in recent matches, the Lopes are hoping their trek south will bring victories.
"We're going to come out and play. We're definitely not trying to compete, we're trying to get W's," said sophomore setter Chris Bradshaw (pictured).
Grand Canyon is winding down its inaugural men's volleyball season. After this weekend, it has only two more trips, one to Johnson and Wales and a match at UC San Diego.
At Lake Wales, though the programs may not be in the caliber of UCLA and Co., the competition will provide challenges for the Lopes. Along with a talented Lees-McRae team, Warner Southern and Cardinal Stritch have winning records and are in the same conference as St. Ambrose -- and Missouri Baptist -- another recent GCU opponent that presented problems.
Fontbonne is winless on the season.
"I think everyone is hungry for a win," added Bradshaw. "We want to come out and surprise some people."
