GCU rally falls short, lose 9-8 in PLWS Championship

ST. GEORGE, Utah -- Grand Canyon scored four runs in the bottom of the ninth inning, but fell one run short of forcing extra innings and lost 9-8 to Dixie State in the PacWest Little World Series Championship at Bruce Hurst Field Saturday.
All four ninth-inning runs came with two outs. Senior Austin Stockfisch (pictured), in his final at-bat as an Antelope, hit a 3-run home run to get the team within one run.
Jeff Mutchler opened the inning with a single. He was replaced by pinch-runner Ryan Codling, who moved to third base after a wild pitch and ground out. After a walk to P.J. Garcia, Jay Green had an RBI-single prior to Stockfisch's home run.
Dixie State took control of the game with a five-run second inning.
