Lady Lopes fall to Dixie State
One game after breaking out offensively for its best showing of the year, the Antelopes were bottled up tight Wednesday night.
Grand Canyon lost to Dixie State 5-0 at GCU Soccer Complex.
It was the complete opposite of GCU's last game when it peppered the net with shots. This time, it was the opposition who created all the offense. Dixie State (5-3-1, 3-0-0 PacWest) attempted 33 shots, including 17 that were on goal.
GCU goalkeeper Shela Robertson made a season-high 12 saves.
GCU made a few changes to its lineup as Jessica Schartz returned from an injury that kept her out the past three games. She handled the sweeping duties, while Tessa Chesser moved up into the midfield.
Dixie's Wendy Stratford had a goal and two assists. Her goal was the first of the game, and it came in the 23rd minute. She assisted on Erika Mouritsen's goal at the 28:24 mark. It was Mouritsen's eight goal of the year.
Mikala Wilkes, Kalehua Harward and Camille Peterson also scored for Dixie State.
Grand Canyon (2-6-1, 1-2-0) forced Dixie goalkeeper April Hansen to stop just one shot -- a boot off the foot of Antelopes senior midfielder Jeanne Davis (pictured). The Antelopes attempted five shots.
Grand Canyon will host Notre Dame de Namur at 12:30 p.m. Sunday.
