GCU women sign 6 players
Grand Canyon first-year women's soccer coach Stevie Gill announced the signing of six recruits in his first recruiting class.
The Antelopes signed three players from Pima Community College, including first team National Junior College Athletic Association All-American forward Kaylen Jackson. Pima teammates Nichole Elias and Viviana Zumpano, both Arizona Community College Athletic Conference all-conference selections, also signed with GCU.
Jackson had 16 goals and seven assists for 39 points last season. Elias, a midfielder, had 12 goals and seven assists for 31 points. Zumpano had 11 goals and eight assists for 30 points.
Paradise Valley Community College's Jessica Schartz, an All-ACCAC defender, also signed. Schartz had five goals and six assists for 16 points in 15 games with the Pumas.
GCU also added forward Candace Buckles, a first team academic all-state selection from Fort Carson High School in Colorado Springs, Colo., and midfielder Karley Nelson of Iowa Western Community College. Nelson had one goal and three assists.
"Our main focus was to get more of an attacking-minded presence to our team, and I think we've accomplished that," said Gill, who will continue his recruiting search. "They're a wonderful group of athletes."
