Lady Lopes fall 3-1 to Lady Argos
BELMONT, CALIF -- In a pivotal game for conference positioning, an injury-riddled Grand Canyon squad lost to host Notre Dame de Namur women's soccer team 3-1 Thursday night.
Notre Dame and Grand Canyon split the regular season series, each winning on their home field. Now the Antelopes (4-11-1, 3-5 PacWest) will head to Hawaii for a four-game trip beginning Nov. 1. They'll have a week to rest, get healthy and prepare for a big week.
Notre Dame (6-8, 4-3 PacWest) will play Dixie State and Academy of Art before heading to Hawaii.
Nichole Elias (pictured) scored for the 'Lopes on an assist from Karley Nelson, but it was a little too late.
It was Elias' third goal of the season, and it came on a header in the 75th minute. Nelson picked up her third assist.
The Argonauts built a 3-0 lead on goals by Sarah Biser, Heather Toohey and Andrea Harmening. GCU allowed only Biser's goal in the first half.
Grand Canyon keeper Shela Robertson moved into third place all-time in school history in career saves when she stopped seven shots. Robertson has 173 in her career, which began in 2004 and has been interrupted by injuries.
GCU will have a chance to right the ship in Hawaii beginning at Hilo a week from Saturday.
