GCU Women's Soccer Ranked No. 8 in West Region![]()
The Grand Canyon University (GCU) women's soccer team is ranked No. 8 in the West region in this week's NSCAA Division II National Rankings, released yesterday.
The Antelopes defeated Cal State San Bernardino, 2-1, last Friday and Mesa State, 1-0, on Sunday to raise their record to 3-0-0.
GCU junior goalkeeper Mileena Buchei (Stansbury, UT/Grantsville) was named Pacific West Conference Women's Soccer Player of the Week for games played Aug. 31-Sept. 6. She won both games last weekend, had five saves on six shots on goal for a .833 save percentage and posted a shutout against Mesa State.
'Lopes senior forward Aislinn Finfrock (pictured; Glendale, AZ/Independence), senior midfielder/forward Kaylen Jackson (Tucson, AZ/Amphitheater), senior midfielder/forward Nichole Elias (Tucson, AZ/Saguaro) and junior forward Kayla Poe (Mesa, AZ/Dobson) were selected to the PacWest Women's Soccer Weekly Top 10 Honor Roll. Finfrock had an assist on the game-winning goal against Mesa State, Jackson scored the game-tying goal against Cal State San Bernardino as GCU rallied for the win, Elias scored the game-winning goal vs. Cal State Dominguez Hills on Aug. 29 and Poe tallied the game-winning goal vs. Mesa State.
The 'Lopes have a great opportunity to move up in the rankings this weekend. They face defending national champion and current nationally No. 1-ranked Seattle Pacific (4-0-0) on Friday in Seattle, then head down I-5 to battle St. Martin's (3-1-0), currently ranked No. 7 in the West region, on Sunday in Olympia, Wash.
