GCU wins home opener against Johnson and Wales

GCU (1-4) won by set scores of 30-23, 30-23, 30-19. It was the first of two Saturday matches between the teams.
GCU sophomore Brock Hutchins (Gilbert, Ariz./Highland/Hawaii) had 13 kills and a .435 hitting percentage. Freshman setter Brad Moore (Orange, Calif./Lutheran) had 47 assists, a school-record for a three-set match.
Freshman Connor Dougherty (pictured, Aurora, Ill./Wabonise) had nine kills and a .750 average. GCU had a team attack percentage of .448 and hit .560 in the third set, while holding the Wildcats to a -.143 average.
Freshman Chris Lockwood (Lakewood, Calif./Lakewood) had seven kills and three total blocks.
GCU frosh libero Trent Bruns (Mission Viejo, Calif./Mission Viejo) led the Antelopes with eight digs. Hutchins had seven. Freshman Tyler Capko (Las Vegas, Nev./Palo Verde) had six kills and no errors in one set of action. Lockwood and Moore each had three service aces.
The win was GCU's first in school history at Antelope Gymnasium.
