Second-ranked Sonoma State University used nine pitchers to hold Grand Canyon University to four hits in the final game of a four-game series Sunday in Rohnert Park, Calif. Sonoma State won 7-1.
Sonoma's Derek Lewis pitched two innings, allowing two of the four hits, no runs and no walks to notch his first win of the year. Grand Canyon's Mark Hardy went four innings, allowing six hits, two runs, one earned, and one walk in his first loss this year.
GCU (9-29) trailed 4-0 after seven innings when the Antelopes loaded the bases with two outs in the top of the eighth inning. Byron Reischl walked to drive in a run, cutting the gap to 4-1. But SSU (35-5) picked up three more runs in the bottom of the eighth to put the game out of reach.
