Senior pitcher Michell Farrell (Tempe Corona del Sol) was named the Pacific West Conference Pitcher of the Week. She became the first Grand Canyon hurler to receive the honor this season.
Farrell (pictured) went 4-1 last week, tossing four complete games and had one shutout in six appearances. She had a 2.06 earned run average, allowing just 10 earned runs in 34 innings of work. She struck out 25 batters, and opponents hit .218 during those six appearances.
Grand Canyon left fielder Strohm Fouty, first baseman Randi Johns and second baseman Yasmeen Watkins were all named to the PacWest Top 10 weekly honor roll. Fouty batted .385, going 15 for 39 with a double and four stolen bases in 10 starts. Johns hit .385, going 10 for 26 with two doubles, a home run and eight RBI. Watkins batted .387, going 12 for 31 with three home runs, 13 RBI and a .677 slugging percentage.
Watkins was named to the Mizuno Tournament of Champions all-tournament team.
Grand Canyon (15-16-1, 7-5 PacWest) hosts the University of Hawaii at Hilo (5-5, 4-4) in a pair of doubleheaders Thursday and Friday beginning at noon. GCU occupies third place in the PacWest, while Hilo is fourth.
