It had a been a couple weeks since these guys walked off Antelope Gym feeling the way they did Thursday night.
"It feels kind of like the monkey's off our back," Grand Canyon junior guard Milee Karre said.
Grand Canyon beat Notre Dame de Namur 74-67 Thursday night, putting to bed a four-game losing skein that began with back-to-back tight losses to then-No. 26 Chaminade on Jan. 25.
GCU (11-10, 6-7 PacWest) hit on 52 percent of its shots in the first half to set the tone for what became a game Karre (pictured) said the score shouldn't have been as close as the final revealed.
"I don't think it should been that close anyway," he said. "We turned the ball over way too much. We weren't handling the trap very well at first. The last minute or two, we started handling it and made 'em foul us, and we hit our free throws."
Notre Dame (8-12, 4-8) trimmed a double-digit second half Antelopes' lead down to four, but Grand Canyon didn't fold.
"We tried not to let them hang around, otherwise they walk out of here like they did last night," GCU senior forward Rudy Bogan said. "We tried to buckle down and just stay focused, and not make any mistakes and give the game away."
