Grand Canyon dropped the final game of a four-game series at No. 30 UC San Diego Sunday, 9-4 at Triton Baseball Field.
The Antelopes (1-7) scored two runs in the first inning on an RBI double to left-center by Trevor Vega and Dan Colella's run-scoring single down the left field line. The Tritons (7-2) put four runs on the board in the third and added another in the fifth to take a three-run lead.
Grand Canyon got two back in the top of the sixth on Tyler Bair's two-run homer to right to draw within 5-4. But an inning-ending double play put a halt on GCU's comeback bid. UC San Diego added four runs in the bottom half of the sixth to ice it.
Colella went 3 for 4. Vega was 2 for 4. Austin Stockfisch was 2 for 5, as was Cody Fortney. Bair went 1 for 3 as the Antelopes matched the Tritons with 10 hits.
