PHOENIX — Grand Canyon University (5-7) lost their 4 th straight game as Western Oregon (3-2) clubbed five home runs en route to a 10-4 victory at Brazell Stadium on Friday afternoon.
The Wolves jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the 2 nd behind the 2-run home run by Jason Pohl. GCU answered in their half of the second inning on a solo home run by
Cody Johns. Western Oregon extended their lead to 4-1 on a 2-run home run by Brent Mertens who had a game high 3 hits.
The Wolves added another run in the 5 th on a Matt Skundrick solo shot. Whitney Wilson added 2-run home run in the 8 th and Kevin Corrigan hit a 2-run shot of his own in the 9 th .
Lopes starter
Scott Welch was tagged for his first loss of the season as his record falls to (3-1). Welch went 8.0 innings yielding 8 runs (7 earned) while giving up 12 hits in the loss. Wolves starter Nick Waechter picked up his second win of the season moving to (2-0) as he went 7.1 innings allowing 3 runs (all earned) and giving up 7 hits.
