Bogan, Davis and Stromvall Lead the Way
Dallas, TX—Grand Canyon University (4-2) shot 13-20 from the three-point arch, and connected on seven of nine in the second half to defeat Dallas Baptist University 78-64. Richard Davis (Sr/Glendale, AZ/Glendale CC) led the 'Lopes with a game high 28 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 assists while shooting 53.8 percent from three-point range (7-13).
With both teams trading baskets for the first seven minutes of the game, Grand Canyon held a one point lead, 17-16, and would eventually start heating up from the field and separate themselves from the Patriots. The 'Lopes would close out the half with a 19-12 run and went into the locker room up 36-28.
Dallas Baptist made several runs in the second half but never came closer than six points. When the Patriots did make a push and cut the lead to 38-32, the 'Lopes drained four consecutive three's to push the lead back to 12. Dallas Baptist finished the game shooting 41 percent from the field while Grand Canyon shot 55.6 percent. The 'Lopes also shot 65 percent from behind the three-point line and forced the Patriots to commit 14 turnovers.
Rudy Bogan (Jr/Glendale, AZ/South Mountain CC) and Jason Stromvall (Sr/Puyallup, WA/Pierce College) each chipped in 16 points for the 'Lopes. Bogan finished the game 4-4 from the three-point line while Stromvall shot 4-6 from the field including 2-2 from three-point range. Mike Grothaus (Gilbert, AZ/Jamestown College) had a game high 8 assists and Bryan Lee (Sr/Antioch, CA/Deer Valley HS) collected 10 rebounds.
The Patriots were led by Manny Montano with 16 points and 8 rebounds.
The 'Lopes are back in action Saturday, December 16, when they travel to California to face Cal State San Bernardino. Tip is scheduled for 7:30 PM.
