Turnovers Costly For ‘Lopes
San Bernardino, CA—Cal State San Bernardino forced the 'Lopes to commit 41 turnovers as Grand Canyon University (4-3) dropped their third game of the season, 104-60, this evening at Coussoulis Arena. The Coyotes improved to 4-2 on the season with their fourth straight win.
The 'Lopes struggled all night long with the Coyotes swarming defense turning over the ball 25 times in the first half and allowing the Coyotes to jump out to a 32-6 lead in the first 11 minutes of the game. The 'Lopes were down 50-28 at the half despite shooting 60 percent from the field (9-15).
In the second half, the 'Lopes would pick up their play cutting the lead to 16 points at 55-39 with 15:26 remaining in the game, but the Coyotes would score six straight points to increase the lead to 22 points at 61-39 with 13:53 left. That would be the closest the 'Lopes would come as the Coyotes would out-score Grand Canyon 43-21 in the final 13 minutes. Grand Canyon out-rebounded the Coyotes 30-21 but was out shot 64-38 from the field. The Coyotes shot 59.4 percent for the game (38-64), were 15 of 29 from three-point range (52 percent) and had 21 steals. The Antelopes shot 53 percent from the field (20-38) and 39 percent from the three-point line (7-18).
Rudy Bogan (Jr/Glendale, AZ/South Mountain CC) led the 'Lopes with a game-high 24 points on 10 of 14 shooting. Shansan Chambers (Phoenix, AZ/Monterey Peninsula) was the only other 'Lope to score in double digits finishing with 10 points off the bench.
The Coyotes were led by Prentice Harris with 17 points and Chet Johnson with 16.
The 'Lopes are back in action Thursday, December 28, when they face Cal State Dominguez Hills in the Antelope Gymnasium. Tip is scheduled for 8:00 PM.
