Bogan and Davis Earn All-Tourney Honors
Bellingham, WA—Grand Canyon University (2-2) could not hang on as they lost to Western Washington University, 77-67, in the final day of the WWU Chuck Randall Thanksgiving Classic this evening at Sam Carver Gymnasium in Bellingham, Washington. Rudy Bogan (Jr/Glendale, AZ/South Mountain CC) had a solid night leading the 'Lopes with 25 points and 7 rebounds.
The Vikings jumped to an 8-2 lead four minutes into the game, but then the 'Lopes held them scoreless for more than four minutes as Grand Canyon took an 11-8 lead and led for the rest of the half. With the Vikings shooting only 30.0 percent from the field, the 'Lopes went into the half up 35-31. Early in the second half, Western trailed by six, 41-35, but went on an 11-2 run to take the lead 46-43 with 14:53 remaining. The score was then tied six times in the next 7:37 before the Vikings would take the lead for the final time 67-59 with 5:08 left to play. The 'Lopes never came closer than six points after that.
Richard Davis (Sr/Glendale, AZ/Glendale CC) added 17 points and Andray Glenn (So/Modesto, CA/Modesto Christian) chipped in 15 off the bench.
The Vikings were led by Lukas Henne with a game high 27 points. Calin Schell and Brandon Williams finished with 12 points each.
Henne from Western Washington earned tournament MVP honors. Joining Henne, on the all-tournament team were Bogan and Davis of Grand Canyon, Ira Graham from Western Washington, Aaron Sawyer of Northwest University and Jake Linton of Saint Martin's University.
The 'Lopes are back in action Saturday December 2 when they face Western New Mexico in the in the Antelope Gymnasium. Tip is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
