‘Lopes Shoot 56.8 Percent from Field
Bellingham, WA—Grand Canyon University (2-1) had five players score in double figures as they defeated Saint Martin's University, 80-60, to open the WWU Chuck Randall Thanksgiving Classic this afternoon at Sam Carver Gymnasium in Bellingham, Washington. The 'Lopes were led by Bryan Lee (Sr/Antioch, CA/Deer Valley HS) and Richard Davis (Sr/Glendale, AZ/Glendale CC) with a game-high 20 points each.
Saint Martin's lead 14-7 six minutes into the game, but the 'Lopes would go on a 16-2 run to take a 22-16 lead with 6:28 left in the first half and never trail the rest of the game. Grand Canyon would lead at halftime 33-25, and would not let the Saints come with in six points in the second half. Davis would find his shooting touch after halftime scoring 18 points with 13 of them coming in the first 4:10 of the half. Grand Canyon shot 56.8 percent from the field and 87.5 percent from the line in the win.
Rudy Bogan (Jr/Glendale, AZ/South Mountain CC) chipped in 13 points while Jason Stromvall (Sr/Puyallup, WA/Tacoma CC) and Andray Glenn (So/Modesto, CA/Modesto Christian) each added 10.
The Saints were led by Jake Linton and Brendan Campbell with 15 points each.
The 'Lopes are back in action Saturday November 25 when they face Western Washington in the final game of the WWU Chuck Randall Thanksgiving Classic. Tip is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
