PHOENIX —
Chris Rock (Glendale/Ironwood HS) went 2 for 3 with two runs and two RBIs, leading Grand Canyon University to a 4-0 victory over the University of Arizona on Tuesday night at Brazell Stadium.
For Canyon (30-23), five pitchers combined on the three-hit shutout, while striking out a season-high 14 batters. It was the first time the Wildcats (28-15) were shut out this season.
Devin Perrin (Glendale/Glendale CC) picked up the win, improving to 7-2, while Arizona's Joe Little (4-3) was tagged with the loss.
Leading, 1-0, the Antelopes scored three times in the sixth on a two-run single by Rock, and a run-scoring hit by
Chris Raymond (Phoenix/St. Mary's HS).
Arizona's only serious scoring threat came in the seventh, when the first two men reached base but were left stranded after two of the next three batters struck out.
Canyon returns to conference play in the California Collegiate Athletic Association this weekend when it hosts Sonoma State University for a four-game series, beginning on Friday night at 7 p.m.
